Week 51: HARIBO

Bonjour tout le monde,

First of all, we have recently been working with a lot with an amie
named Monica. She is super interested in the Gospel and knows that
it's true! She is 20 years old, and her parents would be happy for her
if she got baptized. And, she accepted to prepare to be baptized on
July 1st. It sounds like all is perfectly in line for her to be
baptized, but there is always a catch. She is worried about what her
sister will think because she wouldn't want anyone in her family to be
part of a church other than Catholicism. So, we've been working on
seeing the family to show them (mainly the sister) the promised
blessings of the Gospel and how it truly does change us for the
better. We will actually be going to their home this upcoming
Thursday, so hopefully all works out.

The other day while porting, we ended up porting this one house with a
guy who was about 50 or so just butt naked outside, so to say the
least, that was surprising. So, he put a towel on, and we actually
talked to him and his boyfriend who is in his late 60's (yes I know
it's kinda weird) on his porch for about an hour or so about the
Gospel. They were super nice, and we had a good time. The only thing
was they were both just wearing towels to cover up so yeah that was
kinda weird, but it was still a good experience. Also, they told us to
talk to this woman in their neighborhood. We ended up meeting her and
will actually be seeing her this next Saturday.

We also had the opportunity to see the LaVie family this week. To
explain this family, her two kids that live at home (Lorrick (16) and
Loria (21)) were baptized a few years ago and are now less active, and
the mom (also named Loria) is not a member. Also, they are currently
living in the north of Marseille. It was really difficult to work with
them, particularly the mom because of a really awful experience that
she had a little while back. Basically, her mom is in really bad
shape, and so she was spending a lot of time at her mom's home. And,
while this was happening, someone  got into Loria's home and stole all
of her stuff which has left her with nothing. Now, she is still
spending a lot of time taking care of her mom and is actually living
in her mom's apartment. The problem now is that once her mother dies,
her family will be kicked out of that apartment and will be left on
the streets. So basically, Loria is just really against God because of
her things that have happened to her while she was just trying to do
good and help out her mother. She wants something bad to happen to the
person that stole from her, and said that after that, she will be at
peace. So yeah, it's just kind of a hard situation for them, and I
just feel really bad for them. I hope to never have experiences like
this in my life, and I can't necessarily blame her for the way she
feels against God and some people because I can't say I know what
she's going through. But, one thing that I can do is show her love and
that's what I'm gonna continue to do.

To kind of get it off this sad note, we went to the HARIBO store
recently and got a lot of HARIBO, but the thing I wanted to bring up
was their slogan in French which is, "Haribo, c'est beau la vie, pour
les grands et les petits!" And, it's so true. We all have problems in
our lives (some worse than others), but the thing is is that this life
is beautiful. It's a blessing to be here on Earth and to be able to
have these experiences in which we can grow. I know that we are on
Earth for a reason, and I know that our goal is to return to our
Heavenly Father. Having a knowledge of the Gospel gives us hope.
Without this hope, there is nothing for us in this life.

Love,
Elder Mason
