Week 1: First Few Days of the MTC

Bonjour everyone,

I arrived to the MTC (Missionary Training Center) this past Wednesday at 11:15. When I got there, I was given my name tag.  Then I dropped off my luggage and started to learn right away. The MTC decided to test out something with the missionaries heading to Lyon, France. They gave us iPads just for use in the MTC and then we return it right before we leave to France. In my first class, my teacher, Frère Kellett, started teaching us French right away. It was kind of overwhelming initially, but I know it's for my own good. My district includes 6 elders and 4 sisters. They are: Soeur Soffe, Soeur Robertson, Soeur Schnaus, Soeur Wilde, Elder Graff, Elder Teuscher, Elder Marion, Elder Eyring, and Elder Thorneloe (my companion). Some of you may be asking yourselves, would Elder Eyring happen to be related to Henry B. Eyring. The answer is yes. Yes he is. He is Henry B. Eyring's grandson, but he usually doesn't like to admit it because it generally attracts a lot of attention in the MTC. Each day in the MTC, our days are filled with countless amounts of meetings, workshops, and classes. It is honestly very mentally tiring, and it makes me very exhausted by the end of the day. But, I know it's worth it, and I know it will ultimately help me out in the end.

Yesterday, my day started off with a bright and early wake up at about 6:15. This is something I'm just going to have to get used to. Then, I did some personal study and started to learn more about how to plan and prepare to teach the gospel to investigators. Elder Thornloe and I started preparing for our first lesson with a practice investigator named Pamela. We meet with her tonight. That's not even the nerve-wracking part because we also have to teach it in French. And by the way we have only been learning French for TWO DAYS, but I know I will need help through the Spirit and the gift of tongues to help me get through this. Last night, we had a meeting with our Branch President for a few hours. In this meeting, we introduced ourselves and bore our testimonies to the others there. Also, some of us were given callings. For example, my companion, Elder Thorneloe, was called to be District Leader, and I was called to be the Senior companion in our companionship.
Today, I was able to attend the Provo Temple today. It was a very good experience to be there with my zone and feel the wonderful warmth of the Spirit.

The days so far have been pretty darn long, but I have heard that it feels like it goes by a lot quicker after the first Sunday here. One of the big things that keeps me going and doing what we need to was said by one of the members in my Branch Presidency. He said, "I have never seen a disobedient man happy, and I have never seen an obedient man unhappy." So, I know I need to try my hardest while I'm here and learn as much as I can. I also know that I need to put my trust in the Lord so that he can guide me to do the things that I need to do.
